The Lesson
Assessment/ Reflection
Show a film clip or read a short story which depicts a common minor conflict for children of this age group.

Generate a dialogue about common kinds of conflicts. Make it clear to the students that they are not to name names, but rather discuss kinds of conflicts.
Chose several types of conflicts from the class list and for each one discuss what options the children in conflict might have. The teacher may use Kelso's Choices to guide the development of the list. (This is a list of possible actions for students who feel they have a small problem.) Remind students that if they have a big problem they should talk to a parent or teacher.

Place students into small groups and assign each group a kind of conflict. Each group will prepare a short skit which illustrates the effective resolution of the conflict using one of the methods discussed.
Students present their skits to the class.

They can then write in their journal about a time where they resolved a conflict successfully and/or about a time when they would have changed their behaviour to create a better resolution.
